This document contains important information on the points you should consider on installing a new release of assyst. This document defines the various points you need to consider in installing assyst, and which components you require to install in order to gain access to the various elements of assyst functionality.
The following scenarios are discussed in this topic:
- General Considerations – elements that you should consider with each assyst installation, or upgrade.
- assyst Enterprise Web Edition – the basic installation of the web edition to allow it to operate with its default capacity.
- assyst Enterprise Web Edition With Enhanced Search – this allows access to assyst Search via its search server.
- assyst Enterprise Web Edition With assyst Connect – this option allows greater flexibility in data import and export from assyst.

General Considerations
Specification
Check the hardware and operating software meets the minimum specification. If you do not have the assyst minimum specification document please download the current version. or contact our Service Desk via eMail.
Existing assyst Installations
If you have an existing assyst installations please remove these, if they are no longer required.
To un-install a previous version of assyst Enterprise, you must select Add/Remove Programs from the Control Panel, choose assyst Enterprise from the list and click on the Add/Remove button to remove the current installation.
This automatic un-install will only delete the files which it can determine it brought into your systems using the automatic install.
Database
Ensure that you have the correct database client installed on the client PC and that the server that hosts the database is available.

Application Server Technology
assyst Enterprise Web Edition in available in two application server technology flavours; JBOSS and WebSphere. Ensure that you are accessing the correct Installation Guides for the technology that you are using.
Software Availability
Possess access to an assyst installation DVD or the downloaded installation.
License Availability
You should have your assyst license key delivered via e-mail, please let our Service Desk via eMail know if you have not received this.
Location of Additional Images
It is desirable to have a single maintained source of additional images that you use in assyst. This can be achieved (amongst other ways) by creating a .war file and locating this in the server\default\deploy directory of the installation. As it is located in the deploy directory the files can be accessed using the .war file and filename as the path, for example if an image called "newPhone.png" was located in the "assystimages.war" file this could be identified using the path of /assystimages/newPhone.png.
assyst Enterprise Web Edition
In order to operate assyst Enterprise Web Edition you will require to have the Windows edition installed on your network to provide the licensing and administration controls, and the extended management of infrastructure and configuration items.
Windows Edition Installation
To install the Windows Edition of assyst Enterprise please follow the instructions given in “assyst Installation Notes.pdf” which can be found in the <assyst 9\assyst 9\Documentation\EN\> directory of the DVD or Download.
Application Server Installation
- JBOSS Application Server Installation
- This release support JBOSS 4.2.3. Therefore a full installation of JBOSS and assyst Enterprise is required for existing assyst installations. The release contains an installation of the assyst 9 web application suite. assyst should be installed using the appropriate installer found in the distribution DVD or Download.
- To install the JBOSS Application Server then please follow the instructions given in the assyst Web Client JBOSS Installation and Configuration Guide. Further guidance on optimization of JBOSS is given in JBOSS Clustering.
- WebSphere Application Server Installation
- This release contains instructions to install assyst 9 web application suite into a WebSphere environment. To install the WebSphere Application Server then please follow the instructions given in the assyst Web Client WebSphere Installation and Configuration Guide.
assyst Digital Dashboard

assyst Enterprise Web Edition With Enhanced Search
In order to operate assyst Enterprise Web Edition with the additional enhanced search functionality you will be required to install the Search Server after you have installed the Web Edition of assyst Enterprise.
Search Server Installation
To install and configure the search server then please follow the instructions given in the Search Engine Installation & Configuration Guide. A snap-shot view of this procedure is given in the assystSearch Server – Quick Start Guide.
assyst Enterprise Web Edition With assyst Connect
In order to operate assyst Enterprise Web Edition with the additional assyst Connect functionality you will be required to install and Configure the assyst Connect Server after you have installed the Web Edition of assyst Enterprise.
